Cannabis and Witches and Magick, Oh My!

“Spooky Season” is around the corner. Along with it, comes the ghouls, pumpkins, spiders, skeletons, bats and my personal favorite, witches. Contrary to the many held myths on witches: we don’t wear a black pointed hat, we don’t hex our exes, we don’t cast “love spells” to attract our relationships, we don’t ride on broomsticks into the moonlight and yes, some of us enjoy a little cannabis with our magick. Witches are a lot more “normal” than you think. We have families, we attend school, and we work in all different sorts of professions, aside from our craft.

Witches are known to be holders of ancestral knowledge and ethereal wisdom of those before them. We are honestly more healers than “hex-ers”. No, I don’t mean that if you come to us with a broken limb or a broken heart, we chant a little something, and magically heal you. Our desire to heal is a lot more complex than that.

This belief system has existed long before many organized religions and it is centered on working with the elements of nature (earth, water, fire and air: including spirit), and using metaphysical methods and rituals, to shift energy in order to manifest and affect change.

‘Canna-Magick’ has been used in spiritual journeys for centuries, to help empower cleansing and healing, in order to stimulate experiences beyond the mundane. It’s no foreign concept for a witch to incorporate some good herb into their daily lives and rituals, whether magickally, recreationally, medicinally or all three.

 Some light up with this sacred herb before meditation, to quiet their mind prior to the session. While others enjoy this sacred herb after a nice smudge session. Which allows them to just exist and enjoy their cleansed space. Cannabis can also give temporary relief from pain. It can help combat feelings of anxiety and depression. As well help inspire feelings of happiness, motivation, focus and creativity. When you feel good emotionally and physically, it can help you thrive in your craft.
