Celiac Disease and Cannabis

Blog: Post: Celiac Disease and Cannabis

Celiac Disease is a disease normally diagnosed by a doctor, through a series of tests and blood work. Celiac Disease is an extreme allergy to the common protein, gluten. Gluten is found in wheat, barely and rye. When a person with Celiac Disease eats gluten, it triggers an autoimmune response, where the body attacks that protein in their small intestine. Over time that reaction to the gluten creates inflammation within the small intestines which can cause further medical complications down the line, such as malapsorption of nutrients, weight loss, and anemia.

Unfortunately, Celiac Disease is considered an invisible illness because it's not always obvious. It's not something that's commonly spoken about either, because no one really wants to explain in grave detail why they have to turn down that breadstick or that pizza slice.

Lucky for us, cannabis can help us manage some of the discomforts that come with this condition. Many people report that cannabis can help with abdominal pain, due to bloating and excess gas, as well as help ease diarrhea. Although nausea is a less common symptom in Celiac Disease, some do experience it and cannabis can help alleviate nausea as well. Of course a gluten free diet is the best way to help manage Celiac Disease but why not have something you can enjoy to help you through the nasty symptoms of this disease.

At Athena's Gifts we have flowers, vape carts, treats (yes some are gluten free and equally delicious) and drinks to enjoy. Just take a look at our menu and see how you can donate to get gifted. We are a female minority owned business, located in The District. We're here to help you maneuver through this invisible illness so you can focus more on relaxing instead.
