You know when you've had a stressful week. Not the type a week, that a glass or two of chardonnay can help. I mean the week where you know, you need something else, to help ease the tension you've accumulated on your neck and shoulders since Sunday. Yeah, that kinda week.
You notice the house is out cold, your dog is even snoring, dishes are done and no one needs a damn thing from you at that moment. With that being said, you rush over quietly to your stash jar, doob tube, pot box, whatever you wanna call it, and you light up and take the biggest inhale of your life, only to succumb to a coughing fit loud enough to not only wake the house but also the neighbors. Yeah. Been there. Not fun.
I've learned a little something during my cannabis journey and that's this very important, yet often ignored, three syllable word...microdose. It is probably one of the most important things I've kept close about weed thus far.
To be honest, not everyone can handle a deep toke, no matter how long they've been a part of the culture and that's normal. Weed hits differently for some. It depends on the person as well as the strain. And if a person does happen to overcome the coughing fit, they just overwhelm their bodies and before you know it they're panicking, thinking the cops are outside and they're gonna die. Also been there. Experiencing paranoia while high is terrifying, and a bad high = a bad experience.
Microdosing when smoking, involves smaller tokes and a lot of patience. Let it work with your body's natural chemistry. Don't rush it. It will happen. Now when you light up, although you normally can start feeling the effects minutes after your first inhale, you're not in the clear yet. The effects from toking can reach their maximum intensity up to a half an hour after. Just remember that, before you re-hit it thinking "I don't feel anything". Honestly the main factors that really influence how strong it may effect an individual depends on their weight, age, height and all around health.
The same applies to THC infused edibles and drinks as well. Microdosing with edibles is a great way to get a positive experience without all the paranoia and couch-lock that can occur when you overindulge. Plus that delicious edible you got, can last you a bit longer.
One of the biggest differences between microdosing when smoking and microdosing when eating, is the extra process our bodies go through beforehand. When we eat or sip on a THC infused treat, our stomach digests it and then our liver has to metabolize it. Which can take anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes. Although for some, it could take as long as 2 hours for you to feel its full effect. So no matter how delicious that lemonade, or brownie is, my best advice is, to just take smaller bites and smaller sips, until you learn your dose. Nobody wants a bad high.
