My favorite way to enjoy my weed is to eat it. I like that I can control my dose at home with edibles or take a bite of a candy discreetly, while on the go. I also noticed that the older I get, the bigger my sweet tooth got, so I’ve been leaning more towards cannabis gummies and chocolates. My own personal struggle with the candies is how to properly store them. I mean if I keep them out by my bed for easy access, I run the risk of my son thinking it’s fair game so I knew I would never do that. But if I kept my candy in the fridge for too long and tried to eat one, they’d always be too hard to enjoy. I mean I still ate them because why would I ever waste candy, that’s just crazy talk but most often I wanted the consistency of a gummy or the creaminess of a chocolate.
Another challenge you can face with storing THC gummies and candies is that air could be both a good thing and a bad thing for its shelf-life. For instance, if they’re left out for too long, the air exposure can wick away cannabinoids from the edible which lessen its effects and taste, but if you store your THC gummies in an airtight container in a warmer environment, the lack of air and the warmer environment can cause your candies to weep or melt, which makes them just look sad and unattractive. Through a lot of trial and error, I realized that if I stored them in an inconspicuous, airtight plastic or silicone container in the fridge and waited until they reached room temperature for about 5-10 minutes, they were perfect. And on the warmer days, I made sure to dust my gummies before storing them with 2:1 of cornstarch and powdered sugar. By doing that I was able to avert the whole weeping part of them and enjoy them. Plastic, or silicone is ideal for the storage of THC candies, but dark glass jars are also okay for storage as well
Cannabis Infused Chocolates involve less fuss because they can maintain stability pretty well on their own. Just make sure your chocolates are also kept in an airtight, cool, and dry environment because like with your typical chocolate they run the risk of melting if exposed to warmer temperatures. If you want to preserve your cannabis candies more long term you can carefully vacuum seal them before putting them in the freezer. Keep in mind that the pressure from vacuum can crush the candies inside the bag if you attempt to vacuum seal right after they were at room temperature. Refrigerating them until they harden and then vacuum sealing to transfer them into the freezer would probably be your best bet to avoid a sticky mess.
The one most important thing to remember about the proper storage of cannabis chocolates and candies is that they should always be out of reach to children, pets, and guests. They resemble your normal candies and it’s not that uncommon for someone to mistake them as just a regular treat. Invest in a fridge locker if you can, to always make certain your special edibles and treats don’t get touched by naïve fingers.
