Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disorder that most commonly effects the joints in the hand, wrists and knees. When you have RA, the pain can range from mild to severe. RA is considered an autoimmune disorder as well, which means it attacks the body's own healthy cells and tissue by mistake. Even though RA is most commonly seen in those who are middle aged, it can occur at any age and gender.
This painful disorder can sometimes leave people unable to move about, without struggle and discomfort, but they don't want to have to rely on opioids for pain relief. This is why many are choosing to take on a more natural approach for pain relief. THC (the active ingredient in cannabis) is known to help alleviate pain associated with RA. This is because of the cannabinoids in cannabis. Cannabinoids work with our endocannabinoid system. Our ES is an intricate network of cell receptors that affect our appetite, sleep, mood, etc but it also helps regulate pain and inflammation, which are the two main culprits of RA.
Cannabis is known to have some pretty powerful anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties as well. This is because of these two special cannabinoids; cannabidiol (CBD), which most of us are familiar with and caryophyllene (a terpene found in cannabis, clove and black pepper). CBD and caryophyllene do their job by activating the CB2 receptors, which help regulate inflammation. If you have lessened inflammation within your body, it gives you a moment to feel less pain associated with RA.
Even though cannabis is a more accepted form of alternative medicine now, people have been using it for centuries, for it's healing properties.
